Sefton Extended Schools Project

  • Objectives

  • The Stand Out team were called in to deliver a tailored programme with pupils from Holy Family Catholic High School as part of an alternative curriculum project. The aim of the project was to primarily help young people to build their confidence and self-esteem as well as helping them to develop communication skills.
  • Workshops

  • The workshops were delivered at the Singh Centre in Seaforth during school hours with the pupils travelling across from their school with teachers. A wide range of creative learning activities were used to slowly build the young people's confidence over the course of 6-weeks. Young people gradually became more confident and took part in stand up comedy and comedy writing exercises in which they developed their own original ideas for a short comedy routine.
  • Outcomes

  • Rather than focussing on solely straight stand up, the group were encouraged to get involved in team building exercises through comedy improvisation as a platform for confidence building. The final performance took the role of a TV Game Show entitled 'Holy Family Fortunes' which showcased of all the newly developed skills learnt over the course of the programme.
  • Young People's feedback
