Objectives
Funded by Sefton Study Support, the Stand Out Programme was set up to run as a joint course between St Michaels C of E High School in Crosby and Holy Family Catholic High School in Thornton. As always the aims were to increase confidence and self-esteem, as well as having plenty of laughs along the way!
Workshops
The sessions took place at Holy Family with pupils from St Michaels eagerly travelling by taxis that were kindly funded by Sefton Study Support. During the 6 week course, teachers from both schools got involved in the sessions by learning the ropes of stand up comedy alongside the young people!

Outcomes
- The course was extremely successful, resulting in a fantastic end performance by all the participants (including the teachers!). Off-stage the pupils had a collection for charity, laid on drinks and a buffet which helped to make it a memorable evening.
For their commitment and endeavour Holy Family were rewarded with the School of the Year Award at the annual Stand Out Competition. This course also included winner of the Achievement Award and Young Comedian of the Year.
Feedback
''I would just like to say a big thank you to you all at the comedy trust. The pupils thought it was a wonderful and fantastic experience and loved ever minute of it. You have made a real difference to the young people who took part and I am sure they will carry the confidence and the memories of being on stage that night for the rest of their lives.''
