"Culture has the power to change lives. I've seen it myself so many times. A young person attending the theatre can find it an exhilarating experience, and be inspired to explore new horizons’’ Andy Burnham, Culture Secretary
At The Heart of Great Liverpool Theatre
The Royal Court Theatre is one of the only independent theatres outside of London. All shows are produced by the Royal Court and are rehearsed in Liverpool. The theatre adopts a loose repertory style company drawing on a pool of home grown talent including; actors such as Eithne Brown, Drew Schofield, musicians including Howard Gray, scriptwriters including Willy Russell and Dave Kirby and locally based technical staff, stage managers and theatre administrative staff.
The vision of the Royal Court Trust (www.royalcourttrust.org) is for children and young people to have access to the Royal Court Theatre, to learn about its rich heritage, to experience live performance and to engage in participatory activities deigned to stimulate their creativity and develop their interests and talents.
"Eithne's workshop on 'Stags & Hens' was extremely beneficial to the students as it gave them an insight into how a production is put together. It helped them to develop a deeper understand of the characters and helped them to think about all the different aspects involved in performing including voice, body language and relationships created on stage'' Claire Amos, Head of Performing Arts, New Heys School
It is our goal to work in partnership with schools, children and young people, children’s services and education providers to develop a wide reaching education programme for the theatre that achieves artistic excellence and provides high quality learning experiences for all children and young people.
Throughout 2009 we will be piloting 3 key learning and participation programmes for children and young people at KS2, KS3, KS4 and college entry students.
If you have an interest and background in education, the arts, or health and would like to contribute to the development of the Trust’s learning and participation programme then we would love to hear from you. Quarterly consultation meetings are held in the theatre and you will receive free tickets for the evening show.
